lyrics
We — we had ridden
For a long time
And me — despite what I’m given
Still got you on my mind
But now I’m coming home
I hope to find you one last time.
Why — why would I miss you
From the other room
Why — why? why when I’m with you
Night always comes so soon
Now I’m coming home
And I’ve written a new tune
And it’s all I’ve had,
And it’s you’ll take,
From me, is coming back to be me
And it’s: it’s all I’ve had,
It’s you’ll take, from me,
is just coming back to be me
And I sing: Na, na, na, na, na, (et cetera)
Just — just the other day I found
I found a letter that I’d written myself
But — wait, now the funny thing I’ve found
Is that it was sent to me by somebody else
Looks like I’m coming home
Have to answer the door myself
And we — we have ridden always
Always up in my mind
And me — well despite what I’m given
Can’t break through — can’t get through —
Can’t get through to this heart of mine
Now I’m coming home
Hope to find you one last time
But it’s all I’ve had
And it’s you’ll take
From me, is just coming back to be me
And it’s: it’s all I’ve had
It’s you’ll take from me
Is just coming back to meet you
And I sing: na, la, na (et cetera)
about the song
I wrote this back in February of 2006, recorded it a few times, didn’t like it, recorded it again, still didn’t like it, couldn’t come up with lyrics, made stuff up on the fly, still didn’t like it; but, after a few expensive counseling sessions, I convinced myself that the purpose of putting songs on the web wasn’t about liking them or even thinking they were good: it was just about doing it.
So there you have it.
Plus! There is some kind of electrical interference/hum in the background of the vocal and it makes me very, very angry. But: my counselor says I need to let it go.
And I realize I haven’t posted any new songs on here since In Search of #6 went live because, to be frank, occasionally now people are actually browsing this site and it scares me that they may accidentally listen to the songs as well. So I write them then pretend they are not finished or I am unsatisfied with my recording equipment when, in fact, I am terrified of an accidental listening audience.
